The site is unique: a hilltop with commanding views at 360 degrees. The image of the house from a distance: a traditional stone volume surmounted by a pitched roof that gently extends the slope of the hill towards its apex. As one gets closer, the impression starts to transform: volumes slightly detach from each other allowing for nature to seep in all the way to a central indoor garden. The wooden roof slightly detaches from its stone base and reveals the whole panorama, from Beirut to Jounieh bay, from Jounieh to Jbeil, from Jbeil to mount Lebanon and back to Beirut. As the roof extends from the center towards its edges, it gradually dematerializes into pergolas and sun-shading systems. Below, in the stone volumes, more private spaces benefit from further layers of shelter. In order to insure maximum privacy and protection from the sun, the windows can be totally closed-off with a system of operable stone blinds.
